Indian Stocks Rally for 4th Day, Fueled by Investor Buying
Reasoning
The news summary highlights significant gains in major indices (Sensex & Nifty) and strong buying activity from both FIIs and DIIs. Positive company-specific news further reinforces the optimistic outlook.
Key Takeaway
The Indian stock market continued its upward trend today, fueled by strong institutional investor buying and positive news from key companies like Reliance Industries and Inox Wind, suggesting continued positive momentum for tomorrow.
View Full Market Analysis
Today was a really good day for the Indian stock market! The BSE Sensex jumped 371 points, finishing at 81,644.39 – that’s a gain of 0.5%. The NSE Nifty also rose, closing up 0.4% at 24,980.65. This marks the fourth day in a row that the market has moved higher.
A big part of today’s positive move seems to be driven by who’s buying. Both Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) and Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) were net buyers yesterday, August 18th. FIIs bought ₹550.85 crore worth of stocks, while DIIs invested a much larger ₹4,104 crore. When these big players are buying, it usually boosts confidence.
Specific companies really stood out. Reliance Industries was a major winner, jumping 2.82% and adding 229 points to the Sensex’s overall gain. They just landed a big order from NHPC to build a solar power project with battery storage – a project worth a winning tariff of Rs 3.13 per kWh. Inox Wind also had a good day, with its shares rising 6% after selling a stake in its subsidiary, Inox Renewable Solutions Ltd., for around Rs 1.7 billion.
It wasn’t all gains, though. Bajaj Finserv, Power Grid, Mahindra & Mahindra, and HCL Tech were all down today, putting some downward pressure on the market. Bajaj Finserv slipped by 1%.
Broader market indices also performed well, with the BSE MidCap and BSE SmallCap both up 0.9%, and the Nifty Midcap 100 rising 1.2% while Nifty Smallcap 100 rose 0.60%. This suggests the positive sentiment is spreading beyond just the biggest companies.
Looking ahead, if the FII and DII buying continues, we could see the market keep climbing. Keep an eye on Reliance Industries and Inox Wind – their recent wins could mean further gains. However, the stocks that lagged today might present cautious opportunities, but require further investigation.
